"Someone's Got to Tell It Like It Is": James Baldwin in San Francisco

A friend of mine tipped me off to a recently restored documentary featuring black gay writer and activist James Baldwin, who uncovers the harsh realities in 1963 of African Americans living in the so-called liberal and tolerant city of San Francisco. Until recently, this history has been repressed. Thanks to Kenyon Farrow for linking to this important documentary video, Take This Hammer.

I'd certainly not have found this gem, that's for sure! :)

The site says video not found.

At least it does right now.

I'll be fascinated to see it.

My family has been in SF since the 1890s. It has always been super traditional, race and class conscious, sort of Boston (or New Orleans) like in those ways.

Profacero, I just checked the link and the video is still there. Not sure why you got that message.

I think it's my raggedy server. I'll get it eventually, now it's there but just doesn't come through. Bookmarked though. Thanks for posting!!!
