What?! Unbelievable!!

While watching the news today, I saw a report of the latest statistics that indicate that 1 out of 2 HIV patients in the U.S. is African American! 1 out of 2!!!

I went online and came upon this New York Times Article. I think I speak for many when I exclaim: What the hell is going on?!

Yeah, I know this. It was just seeing the raw numbers that made me have that emotional outburst. Thanks for adding a deeper level and information to it.

Unfortunately HIV is the disease whose spread is the more influenced by social factors, as it has to do with issues of power and ability to make choices (besides unequal levels of awareness and access to information). I wouldn't be surprised if you would find that women are much harder hit than men..

That's what make it so disheartening, about the HIV pandemic, it seems it would be so easy to stop it, especially in our rich countries (where most people have at least primary education, where it's easy to buy/find condoms and where most medical facilities have enough means to apply the needed hygiene rules) , and yet it is so impossibly difficult.

I’ve known the statistics for a long while now, the sad part is that its unchanging. Its like everyone knows and it continues. I can’t wait for the day when the numbers decrease and we see who did what to make it that way. Untill then, no news will be good news
